The War Memorial, which dates from 1925, was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens. Lutyens was also responsible for the Cenotaph in London's Whitehall and for the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme in Northern France - there are echoes of both the others in the design of the Leicester memorial.
