The Ox Drove from Old Shaftesbury Drove
The Ox Drove from Old Shaftesbury Drove
Understand that this may not qualify as a geograph but I wanted to show how marvellously engineered these two ancient roadways really are. The treeline in the distance clearly marks the course of the Ox Drove and highlights how accurately it follows the ridge. Old Shaftesbury Drove runs in a parallel (roughly east-west) direction and follows the next ridge north. Both are amazingly accurate and gave those old horse and ox driven carts the most level drive possible.
And we think that 20th century engineering is impressive.
