Crook By-pass
Some old railways become cycle paths NZ1738 : Walker and cyclist on the Deerness Valley Path, some even take up a new life as a metro line NZ3556 : South Hylton Metro Station, Sunderland, 1st May 2006, but the worst fate that could possibly become a disused railway is to become a road! This is the Crook By-pass (A690) opened 2004 which at this point follows the line of the old railway which formerly ran from Bishop Auckland and the Wear Valley Junction through Crook and over into the Deerness Valley.
