Hartington cheese factory as viewed from the main pay and display car park. The factory opened in the 1870s and produces no less than a quarter of the world’s supply of Stilton. To be called Stilton, a cheese must be produced in the counties of Derbyshire, Leicestershire or Nottinghamshire. Hartington cheese can be purchased from the factory shop opposite the duck pond SK1260 : Hartington Dairy cheese shop.
