An old hauling pillar now provides a diving board for the foolhardy
This kind of pillar would have been used to fix chains for hauling quarried rock from the 'sinc'(deep hole sunk into the floor of the quarry). I don't mind sitting at the end of the pillar dipping my feet into the water- in fact it is quite pleasant on a sunny day - but the idea of diving into the pool fills me with as much dread as would the prospect of spending a night in one of John Salmon's coffin-filled crypts.
