SU2183 : The Black Horse, Wanborough, SwindonIt's a great shame to hear that the Black Horse has closed. This was the one pub in Wanborough I never managed to visit. The Arkells site confirms its closure and an internet search reveals planning permission was given in June 2012 for conversion into a (large) residential property. It is now for sale.
The Arkells website says it used to be a farmhouse, part of Callas Hill Farm and became a beerhouse called Callis (Callas?) House in 1862. It was bought by Arkells in 1891 for £620. Probably it will fetch at least one thousand times that now. The adjoining hall was added much later in 1939 to house Wanborough British Legion.
