Kirkbymoorside (Kirby Moorside) Station from Ings Lane
The North Eastern Railway branch from Pilmoor Junction on the East Coast main line via Gilling Junction to Pickering was built in the early 1870s. The section from Kirby Moorside (as it was called) to Pickering closed completely in 1953, but the line west of Kirby (through Helmsley) was retained for freight and occasional excursion traffic until about ten years later. The station at Kirkbymoorside is now in the hands of a local agricultural machine firm, Russell's. This shot is taken from the overbridge on Ings Lane.
