Photo taken looking across the junction with Southampton Row and Kingsway. The building with the domed turret is Pearl Assurance Company. On the corner with Kingsway (right), near the Underground station, is an example of that now extinct British institution a J.Lyons cornerhouse. Picture scanned from an old slide.
The designer was the Aberdeen architect Alexander Marshall Mackenzie (qv http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Marshall_Mackenzie ). All the interior and most of the timber and marble were brought from Australia. [Visitor's London, 1973].
