Tyrley Bridge and top lock, Shropshire Union Canal
Tyrley Bridge and top lock, Shropshire Union Canal
Coming northwards from Wolverhampton, the Shropshire Union has a very long stretch with just one lock, at Wheaton Aston. But at Tyrley the serious business of the descent to the Cheshire plain begins, with five locks at Tyrley, five at Adderley and no less the 15 at Audlem. Here the view is from just below the top lock, with the road bridge carrying Tyrley Road, (a metalled lane).
