Stile or No Stile?
Stile or No Stile?
This fence, opposite Bryn Gwyn cottage, may be a stile as a footpath is recorded on the 25,000 scale O.S. map. However, the path is not recorded on the 50,000 scale map. The footpath only seems to go to a well on the other side of the field, which would only be of use to the cottage as there doesn't seem to be any means of access to the road beyond. On the 1879 O.S.map a boundary comes down the hill behind the camera to the then Bryn-du cottage straight across the field, on the line of the footpath, and up the other side of the valley to Moel yr Accre. However, on the modern maps the boundary turns right at the stile, goes up to the minor road junction SJ1651 : Road Junction West of Castell y Rhodwydd, and then down the other road to the point opposite and then straight up the hill again to Moel yr Accre. One has to ask why was it changed?
