The Clarence Railway opened 1837, ran between Spennymoor and Bishop Auckland. The trackbed has now been converted into the Auckland Way LinkExternal link ,an attractive path for walkers and cyclists, here seen diverging off to the left. To the right, the West Durham Railway, completed 1840 ran towards Willington.
