Butchery Lane is a narrow shopping road in Canterbury city centre. The cobbled street which links between High Street and Burgate, contains many historic buildings, half of which are listed. Like much of the city centre, the road is pedestrianised.

In 1861 Thomas Black ended his sea-faring days and set up a sail-making business on the River Clyde as Blacks of Greenock.
Success followed for many years but, as Britain's shipping fleets moved from sail to steam, Blacks of Greenock gradually evolved into making canvas tents and sleeping bags.

Wealden Hall Houses were timber framed farmhouses built by wealthy Yeoman farmers from the late 1300's to the mid 1500's (late Mediaeval to Tudor times). Originating in the South East, in the Weald of Kent and Sussex, they spread to other Southern counties around England.
