NX7447 : Dundrennan Abbey

near to Dundrennan, Dumfries and Galloway, Great Britain

Dundrennan Abbey.
Dundrennan Abbey.
Dundrennan, meaning fort of the thorn bushes, was home to Mary Stewart, Queen of the Scots for her last night in Scotland before "embarking" for England. The abbey was founded by King David in 1142 for a group of monks from Yorkshire.
Ironically, Dundrennan is home to the alternative Wickerman festival in 2007. LinkExternal link
