New Hey station, Lancashire
New Hey station, Lancashire
You can hardly believe it, can you? Back in 1968, when this photograph was taken, there were station buildings including toilets, waiting rooms and a booking office, there were station staff, and two lines for the trains, one for each direction. It did not last long. Although this station remains open, it now just has a single line with one platform, a bus shelter and no staff. But improvement is on its way, as it will soon become part of Manchester's Metrolink tram system, with a frequent service linking to Rochdale in one direction, and Oldham and Manchester in the other.
