The Turkey Oak is a Turkey oak, Quercus cerris. The name reflects one of its countries of origin.
Turkey oak (Quercus cerris)

This is an example of a species that was native to this part of the world until the last Ice Age about 120,000 years ago. Between then and the 18th century it was to be found predominantly in south-eastern Europe and Asia Minor (hence the Turkey connection). It was reintroduced to the UK in Georgian times. Not universally loved, in 1998 the Ministry of Defence ordered all examples to be removed from its UK bases because of the threat it poses to native British oaks (the Turkey Oak harbours the gall wasp the larvae of which cause serious damage to acorns). The wood isn't much use for anything more sophisticated than fencing as it is prone to crack and split. More on Wikipedia LinkExternal link
