Upstanding Remains at Sandal Castle
Sandal Castle is today a ruin, c. 400m to the West of the Barnsley-Wakefield road (the A61). It was the centrepoint of the 1460 Battle of Wakefield between Yorkist and Lancastrian troops, which resulted in a heavy and significant loss for the Yorkist cause.
