The cross which forms part of the 'Weld Chapel of Ease' stands on a plinth upon which is inscribed, "THE WELD CHAPEL. The first public place of worship in Southgate was consecrated on the 24th May 1615 and remained until demolished after the consecration of Christ Church in 1862".
