Dead Slow
Dead Slow
Looking up the man made navigable channel towards Dumbarton from the base of the lighthouse at Mirren Shore. If you are sailing down river the green lights on top of the lighthouses are kept above one another. This signifies that you are in the middle of the channel. If you have the top green light either to the right or the left you are liable to run aground which, over the years many Tugs and assorted vessels have done.

Dumbuck quarry, Dumbarton Rock, Dumbarton gas works and the Kilpatrick Hills are visible in the distance. See NS3274 : Lighthouses at Port Glasgow for a view of both lighthouses.
