Rosslyn Chapel
Rosslyn Chapel
The Collegiate Church of St Matthew was founded in 1446 by Sir William Sinclair. Owing to the use of incorrect conservation techniques, the elaborate masonry and sandstone carvings were deteriorating because of damp, and a major restoration project is currently in progress to undo the damage and prevent further problems. This necessitated the erection of a monumentally unsightly canopy over the whole building. The chapel featured recently in Dan Brown's bestseller "The Da Vinci Code", and the resulting increase in visitors after the book was filmed has made a huge contribution to the work.
