Low Newton Junction Nature Reserve
Low Newton Junction Nature Reserve
This Local Nature Reserve was established in 1994. It occupies the site of a former sand quarry which subsequently became a railway junction where a spur line off the East Coast Main Line (just off the photograph to the left) led to the Leamside Line and on to Sunderland. The junction was closed in the 1960s. LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link )
