SJ1948 : Padlocks on Gate

Padlocks on Gate
Padlocks on Gate
This apparently Houdini like lock is in fact very simple. The removal of any one padlock will allow the associated small bar to be removed. The disk can then be rotated so that the by now clear slot in the disk lines up with the metal tongue seen on the left. The tongue will then slide to the right moving the hidden bolt and thus opening the gate. This ingenious method allows eight totally separate individuals, who do not need to know each other, to be able to open the gate and have access to the mountain. See the gate itself at SJ1948 : Mountain Track near the Ponderosa
