Oakwood Roman Fort
Oakwood Roman Fort
The sheep beyond the dyke are within this fort of Flavian date, the ramparts of which are faintly visible. Charred timbers from the structure of the fort gateways were found in situ on excavation in 1952. A temporary marching camp lies nearby to the north of the fort.
