An Old and New juxtaposition.
Just a small hamlet but on the line of a Roman road from Manchester to Ribchester. The cross, believed to be Roman in origin, is thought to mark the halfway point. The road was later used as a packhorse route hence the name of the nearby hostelry "Pack Horse"
