Hedge Lines by the A5104
Hedge Lines by the A5104
The hedge line in the field seems to be on a prominent bank angled towards the road, and then it eventually turns down to the road on the right hand side of the photo. At first this shape seems a little odd, but looking back at the 1879 map, and if the A5104 is ignored, this northern edge of the field looks quite normal. This suggests to me that the field was laid out before the A5104 was created, and indeed the old Roman Road is believed to run further to the north.
