Patronal banner of St.Mary the Virgin to whom Lincoln Cathedral is dedicated in the cathedral chapel of St.John the Evangelist. It contains much traditional symbolism .... the crescent moon represents Mary, the iris represents the sorrows of Mary, the swan is the traditional symbol associated with St.Hugh.
