SK3991 : Tinsley's Twin Towers

Tinsley's Twin Towers
Tinsley's Twin Towers
An unmissable landmark when driving on the M1's Tinsley Viaduct. These old cooling towers have long outlived their original use. They make a fascinating and poignant reminder of Sheffield's industrial past. They are in stark contrast to the modern Sheffield Tram seen heading towards Meadowhall (off image at left). The tram tracks are laid on an old railway trackbed. Like Sheffield's industries the railways have changed enormously since the 1970s. Image taken from a road overbridge.
