SD8021 : River Erosion

At this sharp bend on the river Irwell the recent heavy rain and high water level has washed a large section of the embankment away.
This has had a serious effect on the Irwell Sculpture Trail LinkExternal link that runs along side the river.
As you can see at one point the path is only 10 inches wide when this picture was taken and is in a very unstable condition.
A couple of months ago the path at this point would have been wide enough for a car.
