Offices with the Science Park
Cambridge Science Park is located, on the north-eastern edge of the City of Cambridge. The land is owned by Trinity College and development of the site started in 1971. The development was a response to a report by the Mott Committee in 1969 which recommended an expansion of ‘science-based industry’ close to Cambridge to take maximum advantage of the concentration of scientific expertise, equipment and libraries and to increase feedback from industry into the Cambridge scientific community.
In the 1990s many hi-tech companies had been attracted to the park, there are now over 100 companies located here. In recognition of modern day working practices the park now has a fitness centre, restaurant & bar, conference centre and a child care nursery.
It is often used as a case study at GCSE level for footloose industry in the UK (an MEDC).
