Why this carved rock should be in such a remote spot, or who Skarratt was, I don't know. Perhaps a memorial to a gamekeeper? The carving is dated 1894. The stone was used as a marker in a recent mountain marathon (the marker is just visible in the picture). LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link )

[A correspond adds: "It was put there by gamekeepers for one of two Skarratt brothers who was scared of the mist. He used to stop there for a dram on his way up in to the hills to go shooting. Likelihood is I put the tape there as I use it for Nav Training and for races."]
