Clipper ship Carrick/City of Adelaide
CITY OF ADELAIDE, a composite clipper like CUTTY SARK, was built for trade between Britain and Australia. Former names; Carrick, City of Adelaide. Built by William Pile Jr, Sunderland, in 1864. She was later used as a stationary hospital and accommodation hulk, and then spent many years as a floating Naval Reserve clubhouse in Glasgow. She is currently at the Scottish Maritime Museum in Irvine. Permission has just been granted for her "deconstruction" and only a few pieces will be saved for museum display. A terrible shame but all preservation attempts failed and the slip she is on is required. There used to be public access, but not for some time.

BREAKING NEWS 2012 - It has been announced (February) that the ship is to be transported for preservation in Australia - an excellent outcome.
