Lion Salt Works entrance to museum from Ollershaw Lane
The Lion Salt Works was the last salt works to make block salt by evaporating wild (natural) brine in an open pan. It closed in 1986 and a Trust is seeking to restore it as an industrial museum. It appeared on the second series of the BBC 2 series Restoration. Match funding is still needed before the Trust can access a 5m HLF grant offer. LinkExternal link
