Looking SE. The ruined St Thomas a Becket Church lies to the north of the current St Thomas Church at Heptonstall. David Hartley, leader of the Cragg Vale coiners was buried here after being hanged in 1770. John Wesley said in 1786 "It is the ugliest Church I know".
