Village Pond, Glaston
Village Pond, Glaston
What looks to be a formal pool is actually a pond constructed about 1740. The wording on the sign (see SK8900 : Village pond at Glaston) says,

"An ancient pond circa 1740
for soaking cart wheels to prevent
ash wood shrinking from the iron tyres and
also for horses hooves to prevent hardening"

I hope the horses didn't get foot rot!
