The Centre of the Volcano
The Centre of the Volcano
This insignificant-looking little knoll is of great geological importance. It is the very youngest of the many intrusions making up the Ardnamurchan volcanic complex, probably the solidified central conduit through which the magma rose to the surface. It is composed of quartz-monzonite, and these four patches of pale rock are just about all of it.
