Waterfall on the River Loy
Waterfall on the River Loy
This drop offers a choice of three routes for the paddler, none of them very attractive at this level. Far river left is a bouncy drop, partly obstructed by timber, and ending in turbulent shallow water against the bank. River right was an awkward slide down rocks with really not enough water on this trip (although it was run, safely). Centre looked most feasible, with a boof into the pool, but the landing was quite shallow under that aerated water, so after one paddler had demonstrated its possibility, everyone else in our group elected to portage. The river was dropping off quite quickly after coming up overnight in heavy rain - had we caught it an hour or two earlier, this would probably have been a much more runnable proposition.
