St Mary's, Apuldram - Triple lancet window
St Mary's, Apuldram - Triple lancet window
This very good triple lancet window is to be found at the eastern end of the chancel above the altar. It dates from the C13th and is in the simple Early English Gothic style, but with rather splendid Purbeck Marble shafts.
The glass is of course Victorian, but of good quality - see a close-up of part of the central lancet here SU8403 : St Mary's, Apuldram - Stained Glass Window
Beneath this window is the altar, and leading up to that there are two steps, the lower one of which contains C14th encaustic tiles (see SU8403 : Fourteenth century encaustic tiles).

Apuldram - St Mary's Church
The church of St Mary in Apuldram dates originally from the C12th but was almost completely rebuilt in the C13th. It was rather heavily restored twice in the Victorian period, first by Butler (1845) and then by L W Ridge (1877). The porch dates from the C15th while a vestry and heating chamber were added in the C19th.
The most important features of the church are the triple lancet window in the chancel and the encaustic tiles on the lower altar step beneath it.
