SZ7799 : Coprinus plicatilis (or similar)

taken 5 years ago, near to West Wittering, West Sussex, Great Britain

Coprinus plicatilis (or similar)
Coprinus plicatilis (or similar)
This little fungus is either Coprinus plicatilis or any one of a dozen very similar species that can only be told apart with a microscope. Sometimes known by the common name "(Little) Japanese Umbrella". In this quite mature example, the cap has become almost translucent. The cap is about the size of a 2p piece.
Though theoretically edible, it is so tiny and insubstantial as to be not worthwhile.
