This image differs from another LinkExternal link that was taken 25 years ago. The left (nearside) bank now has more tree growth and limbs overhanging the water, but the main difference is that the water was virtually still in late August 2013 - with yellow water lilies (Nuphar lutea) nearby suggesting that it is normally rather slow moving at most. At the start of September 1987 there was sufficient strength of flow for the surface to "boil" at this point and there was water crowfoot (Ranunculus spp) growing over a clean, gravel bed in fast flowing water.
