Dates displayed on the timber-framed west range of the building suggest that that part of the structure dates from circa 1432, being rebuilt in 1624. As pointed out in the Surrey volume of Pevsner, the first-floor overhangs the ground floor, while the top floor overhangs the first - and such double jettying-out is a rarity in Surrey. (Double overhangs are more typical of Essex: LinkExternal link ).
