The Site Of Walkinshaw Brickworks
The Site Of Walkinshaw Brickworks
The excellent Facebook group, 'Paisley - Oor Wee Toon' provided the following information: 'Walkinshaw Brickworks were built around 1905-06 by Merry and Cunninghame, Ironmasters, Miners, Brickmakers and Landowners. The brickworks was slate-roofed, three storeys tall and dominated by a chimney stack. Merry and Cunninghame employing men from nearby Ferguslie, Millarston, Gockston, Inkerman (which they also built) and Linwood. It still produced bricks from mud and clay during the 1960s however was closed in the early 70's and later demolished.'

The disused Walkinshaw Brickworks can be noted middle right of this October 1974 shot: LinkExternal link

Many bricks could be noted lying around the general area, dumped or underneath trees, some with 'Walkinshaw' or 'W B Co' markings.
