Short rapid below Wester Gruinards
Short rapid below Wester Gruinards
After the gorge, the River Carron flattens out, with just a few short, rocky rapids. These still provide some fun, so it's worth carrying on down the river to a take-out river right shortly before the river moves away from the road at Gruinards Lodge, even when the level is this low. This trip was in the drought at Easter, 2013 (even the moors had been burning, so paddleable rivers were hard to find), but the narrow confines of the Carron gorge provide some sport even under such dry conditions, making it worth driving all the way from Fort William.
