The Dunnet Head Lighthouse was designed by Robert Stevenson, who was the father of David and Thomas Stevenson who designed the Holburn Lighthouse just down the coast at Scrabster. See ...

Robert was also the grandfather of the Robert Louis Stevenson who (more) famously wrote literary classics such as Kidnapped, Treasure Island and The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

The Lighthouse was opened in 1831 and stands 20 metres high. It was automated in 1989.
