NS3673 : Folly

taken 4 years ago, near to Langbank, Renfrewshire, Great Britain

Some information panels inside this hexagonal building provide further details: it was built by George MacMillan and Estate staff in their spare time. The source of its building materials is listed: for example, the walls use stone from St Mary's Church, Port Glasgow, presumably the predecessor of the one that is shown in NS3373 : Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Port Glasgow (the present church building opened in 1984).

See NS3673 : Inside the folly for the interior.

There is an area of Celtic paving behind the folly: NS3673 : Celtic paving and folly.
Finlaystone House and Estate
See LinkExternal link for the history of the house, and LinkExternal link for information about the surrounding estate. Finlaystone House (c.1764), standing on the site of an earlier castle, was originally the work of John Douglas, but alterations and additions were made c.1872, and more extensively, by John James Burnet, from 1898-1903.
