NS3673 : The old laundry

taken 11 years ago, near to Langbank, Renfrewshire, Scotland

The old laundry
The old laundry
The little footbridge in the foreground leads over the Finlaystone Burn.

As for the building, its interior reflects its former use as a laundry; it now serves as a kind of museum, and it is laid out in what was considered to be the correct manner for a Victorian laundry, with a copper tub for boiling, wash-basins, a mangle, and so on.

The area on the near side of the footbridge originally served as the laundry's drying green.
Finlaystone House and Estate

See LinkExternal link for the history of the house, and LinkExternal link for information about the surrounding estate. Finlaystone House (c.1764), standing on the site of an earlier castle, was originally the work of John Douglas, but alterations and additions were made c.1872, and more extensively, by John James Burnet, from 1898-1903.
