Horseshoe Weir in the River Teme, Ludlow
Horseshoe Weir in the River Teme, Ludlow
Viewed from Ludford Bridge. There is evidence that this weir had been built by 1241. It powered Old Street mill on the Ludlow (left) bank and two mills on the opposite bank in Ludford. Before the building of this and other weirs across the Teme, the river had rapids, which explains the derivation of Ludlow's name from Old English words meaning a place on a hill by a loud river.
