St Swithun's Shrine, Winchester Cathedral
St Swithun's Shrine, Winchester Cathedral
In the Retrochoir of Winchester Cathedral is a shrine to Saint Swithun, who is famous the proverb about it raining for 40 days, if it rains on St Swithun's day, (15th July). Although there are few direct references to Saint Swithun when he was Bishop of Winchester, (853 to 862), there are a large number of miracles attached to him following his death, hence the veneration. for a view of the cathedral organ refer to picture SU4829 : Winchester Cathedral, Organ.
