Holy Hole, Winchester Cathedral
Holy Hole, Winchester Cathedral
Behind the High Altar in Winchester Cathedral is an Icon Screen in the Eastern Orthodox style and the 'Holy Hole'. Originally icons relating to several saints were stored here and the pilgrims would crawl into the hole to be close to them. The use of the Eastern Orthodox design for the screen is an act of multi-faith co-operation. For a view of the shrine to St Swithun refer to picture SU4829 : St Swithun's Shrine, Winchester Cathedral.
