This information board is on the sea bank overlooking the vast RSPB Frampton Marsh nature reserve. Written on the board is:

Saltmarsh is land that regularly gets flooded by the sea. It's a rare habitat for special wildlife. Unfortunately, every year around the UK, enough saltmarsh to cover 140 football pitches is lost to the sea. Ten per cent of the UK's remaining saltmarsh is found here on The Wash.

Saltmarsh is not only vital for wildlife but it also provides a natural defence against the power of the tide, soaking up energy from the sea and protecting the land beyond it. The saltmarsh at Frampton is the oldest, largest and most important for wildlife in The Wash. Redshanks nest here - listen for their distinctive calls throughout summer. Skylarks, meadow pipits and reed buntings also nest among the vegetation. Sea aster and sea lavender add colour in summer.

During winter, brent geese feed on areas of short grass, often in their thousands. Flocks of twites search for seed among the tussled vegetation. At high tide, flocks of wading birds are forced off their mudflat feeding grounds onto the saltmarsh.

Peregrines, merlins, hen harriers and short-eared owls are regular visitors in winter. They are drawn to the saltmarsh by the many small birds and mammals.

The saltmarsh of The Wash is protected, designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
