Waymark for the Cross Borders Drove Road
Waymark for the Cross Borders Drove Road
For over 300 years cattle were moved in droves from the markets in Falkirk or Crieff southwards to near Norwich, where they were fattened on lush grazing before the final drove to Smithfield Market in London. On this stretch of the Drove Road the route crosses the Pentland Hills to West Linton, over the Tweed at Peebles and onwards to Traquair and Minch Moor.
