Bridge by Smeaton-Tyburn, Birmingham
The Birmingham and Fazeley Canal was authorised, after some opposition, in 1784 and completed in 1789 - the engineer was John Smeaton. It runs from Birmingham to Fazeley, near Tamworth, with 38 locks en route in its 15 miles. This, Berwood Bridge, over which passes Berwood Lane from the A38 at Tyburn, was the end point of a Sustrans litter sweep held that day.
